At the beginning of 2017, I made a resolution that I was going to take better care of myself. While I tried a lot of things to better, there were a few that stood out to me for doing the most. I have been following these healthy habits, and I think you should try some too! Here is what helped me to become a happier, healthier person.

  • Drink more water. I carry around a water a one-litre water bottle and try to drink 4 or 5 of them a day.  Water is very important for health. Your skin will look much shinier and your skin will be firmer and less dry. If you have issues with drinking water, try adding fruit. I also love black green tea.
  • Wash your face daily. I love washing my face. There is something so nice about having a face that feels clean and it will help control oil and blemishes! If you’re interested in my skincare routine, you can find it here.
  • Make time to meditate. Meditation is different for everyone. Find a quiet, comfortable space to relax and reflect. I like the guided meditations that you can find on Youtube. I find it is easier to keep concentrated on the meditation. Light a great scented candle, turn off the lights and just allow your body to relax.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast. Breakfast is one of the most important healthy habits. I like to start my day on a good foot by eating something nutritious. I usually go for 2 pieces of Ezekiel toast or a bowl of oatmeal with berries.

  • Try coconut oil for your hair and body. It is so moisturizing. After the shower use coconut oil and a lotion for super smooth skin or try it as a conditioner on the ends of your hair, but make sure you rinse your hair twice! There are so many good benefits of this oil. Some people even use it whiten their teeth!

  • Set monthly goals.  Where do you want to go with your life? Who do you want to be? I set a personal goal to post one blog post a day that I’m proud of for a month. Make sure you stick with them! It feels so good to accomplish your goals. Set up a reminder of your goals on an inspiration board or set your phone home screen to remind you.

  • Wash your sheets and pillowcases often. There’s nothing better than the feeling of clean sheets. Getting rid of dust and debris is good for your lungs and clean pillow cases may help clear up acne.
  • Remember to be thankful. Find something to be thankful for every day, big or small. It could be as simple as your breakfast or as big as the house you live in.
  • Make time to unwind and disconnect. Disconnecting from the online world can be very refreshing. I recommend going for a short walk every day without bringing your cell phone or using your meditation time to disconnect. Being social online comes with pressures and disconnecting allows us to have time to focus on the real-life and connecting with people face to face. In my family, we eat dinner together without cell phones so we have a chance to connect after a long day.
  • Spend time with supportive people. This relates to the point above, but having supportive people around you is really important. These people can help keep you accountable to your goals and praise you when you are achieving them. Similar to this, get rid of toxic people in your life. You don’t have room for negativity your space.
